The Special Blend is our best selling Lippa4Life and a great way for anglers to try "lipping" and controlling fish in the water rather than netting, manhandling, or beaching the fish. It is an easy tool to use, and a simple concept - control the fish in the water by its jaw, remove the hook, and release the fish in the water. The same Brown trout that destroyed your 4 in. streamer to get hooked in the jaw in the first place does not mind the lippas holding it in the water, and it definitely does not get hurt. The most unnerving aspect of "lipping" fish is at the initial point of contact IF the fish thrashes its head side to side. This doesn't happen all the time, but when it does it can be a little stressful. Some anglers panic and let go of the lippa altogether, others squeeze the handles harder, and some just jump back. The best method is to maintain pressure on the handles and push the fish entirely underwater until it chills out. Once the fish gets over the initial freak out and realizes something is holding it in the water, and not wanting to lift it out of the water they seem to relax. It is at this time when it is easy to remove the hook, and then simply release pressure on the Lippas to let the fish swim away - never having been out of the water!
